We should maintain good gastrointestinal health. The gastrointestinal tract is an organ system in humans and other animals which takes in food, digests it to extract and absorb energy and nutrients and expels the remaining waste as feces. There are millions of bacteria in our gut. The bacteria in our guts break down food that the body can’t digest, produce important nutrients, regulate the immune system, and protect against harmful germs.

Many factors affect our gut like environment, medications we take and diet. We can’t control all the factors that go into maintaining a healthy gut microbiome. We can balance the microbes by paying attention to what we eat. Foods rich in fiber such as fruits and vegetables are highly beneficial for our gut while foods like high-fat, meat and heavy diets increase inflammation of the colon and affect the stomach.
