The movie ‘Lawajuni’ made in the tradition of Kamalari has been released on YouTube. The film, produced and directed by journalist KL Peedit, was released on Utsarg Nepal’s YouTube channel on Thursday.

Lawajuni focuses on the story of the Tharu girls who fell victim to the Kamalari tradition and their aspirations for liberation. In Tharu language, ‘Lawajuni’ means ‘new life’ in Nepali.

Lawajuni’s executive producer is Gehendra Basnet, while the film is co-produced by Shridhar Kumar Lamsal, Rina Basnet, Samjhana GM, Basant Raj Bhatt and Sarada Budhathoki.

The film stars Chhabilal Kopila, Jwala Khatiwada, Anita Mahatara, Sushila Chaudhary, Varsha Lamsal, Supriya Devkota and Nishma Wali among others.

The song of the film has music by Santosh Shrestha and voices by Komal Wali, Kulananda Giri, Svikriti Dangi, Komalsari GC and Yanshu Shrestha.

The film was made in the year 2075. The director said that the movie was released on YouTube after the hall was closed for a long time due to fighting.
