Softbank was ranked at number 39 in the list of the largest public companies in the world by Forbes. It’s CEO and Founder, Masayoshi Son, has led out a 300-year plan for the company to be the most valuable firm in the world.
The company has invested in fields ranging from e-commerce, bio-medical, telecommunications, finance, satellite to robotic technologies, marketing and more.
One of the most successful investments for Softbank would be its $20 million in Alibaba in the year 2000. After Alibaba went public, fourteen years later this investment resulted in an estimated $60 billion payday.
The acquisitions and investments have only grown for Softbank over the years. In 2017, Softbank poured billions of dollars in VC funded startups like Flipkart( an Indian e-commerce giant) and Didi Chuxing Technology Co (a Chinese ride-sharing application).
With the success of Softbank, Son has become the richest person in Japan. With billions of dollars to invest in companies, the world awaits what the next move of Softbank would be.
