TikTok is a video app that lets you create and share short videos. Released in September 2016 this app has literally taken over the world. It currently has over 1 billion users and 500M monthly active users worldwide. While a lot of people are familiar with the app, do you know about the app’s creators?
TikTok is the global version of the Chinese app Douyin. It was created by a Chinese internet company called ByteDance.
In just seven years of its lifespan, ByteDance has created a significant wave in its international expansion. This company has over a dozen products spanned across 150 markets and 75 different languages. It is one of the most successful startup, currently valued at $75 Billion dollars.
How did Bytedance achieved such success?
ByteDance started off with a news aggregation app called Toutia. Later it 2014, it released Musical.ly with was extremely popular among the millienials in the US.
In 2016, with the release of TikTok, ByteDance merged Musical.ly with TikTok.
