May 10. Kathmandu. After a case of Cholera was confirmed in the capital, Epidemiology, and Disease Control Division (EDCD), started investigating the root cause of this disease.
EDCD started by collecting water samples from different sources at the home of the Cholera deceased person. They found a high level of Coliform in the water tested.
Cholera is caused by eating food or drinking water contaminated with a bacterium called Vibrio cholerae. Water contaminated with fecal materials is the root cause.
