8th May. Kathmandu. The fight between the Nepal Government and Ncell over taxes is getting uglier. The Supreme Court has been dragged into this battle again and again.

Supreme Court on February had announced its verdict about which party should pay the tax – the buyer (Axiata) or seller (TeliaSonera) and at that time it was thought the issue had been solved for good but now we know that it is hardly the case. Based on this order, Large Taxpayers Office on April 16th had asked Ncell and Axiata to clear their gains tax, which amounted to Rs.39.06 billion

But Ncell filed a writ petition at the Supreme Court stating that the determined due amount was wrong.

Yesterday, a joint bench of Justices Sapana Pradhan Malla and Prakash Kumar Dhungana issued an interim order to the government not to collect Ncell dues.
